General Pre-op Instructions

Many operations performed on cats and dogs will involve a general anaesthetic. The risks have now been minimised by the use of modern drugs, techniques and equipment, and every care will be taken to ensure the safe recovery of your pet.

However, all anaesthetics still carry a minimum risk, and so we ask you to help us lessen the risk as follows:

Please DO NOT GIVE YOUR PET ANYTHING TO EAT AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE. Do allow him/her to drink water overnight and on the morning of the operation.

Please bring your pet to the surgery between 8-8.30am on the morning of the operation, in either an escape proof container or dogs on a lead.

For Cats: Please label baskets/cages with your surname and the name of your cat.

It is helpful if you can allow your dog to empty its bowels and bladder before arriving at the surgery.

Pre-anaesthetic blood tests are available and may be discussed with the admitting veterinary surgeon or nurse.

Please leave us an emergency telephone number for the day so we can contact you if necessary.

Please contact the surgery between 2.30pm – 3.30pm to arrange a time for collection of your pet. This is usually between 3-6pm and will be by appointment with a vet or nurse.

You are welcome to ask for an estimate of the likely costs. Fees are due for payment on collection of the animal. With prior agreement from a vet, payment can sometimes be deferred until the end of treatment.

We accept cash, cheques and VISA/MasterCard/Switch/Solo/Electron.

Any treatment covered by insurance must in all cases be paid for on receipt of an invoice. Claim forms will be completed and forwarded as necessary.

We reserve the right to make a charge for dealing with insurance claims.
