Bringing Your Cat to Oathall Vets: Tips for a Stress-Free Visit
We know that cats aren’t always fans of vet visits — but with a little preparation and the calm, caring environment at Oathall Vets, it doesn’t have to be stressful. Whether it’s a routine check-up, vaccinations or something more urgent, we’re here to help make the experience as smooth and comfortable as possible for both you and your feline friend.
Why Cats Can Find Vet Visits Stressful
Cats are sensitive creatures. Unfamiliar smells, car journeys, and new surroundings can make them feel anxious. But there are ways to reduce this stress — starting before you even leave home.
Before Your Appointment: How to Prepare
- Choose the right carrier
Use a secure, hard-sided carrier that opens from the top as well as the front. Place soft bedding inside and leave it out at home for a few days before the visit so your cat can get used to it.
- Get your cat used to their carrier. Please watch these iCatCare videos for tips on how to do this.
- Add familiar smells
Pop a blanket or item of your clothing inside to comfort them. You can also buy Feliway and other calming products at Oathall Vets.
- Keep calm
Cats pick up on your mood, so stay relaxed and speak to them in a soft, reassuring voice. Try not to rush.
During the Journey
- Keep the carrier level and secure in the car.
- Play calming music or keep the environment quiet.
- Cover the carrier with a light towel to reduce visual stress.
