Experienced Veterinary Surgeon

Oathall Veterinary Group – West Sussex

Up to £80,000 DOE

Opening

We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to play a key role in the continued growth and development of our practice.

As a proudly independent practice, we’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who will bring clinical expertise, support the development of colleagues and help shape the future of our practice.

This is more than just another vet role. It’s an opportunity to help shape our clinical services, influence the direction of the practice and work in an environment where your experience and ideas are genuinely valued.

About the Role

This is a full-time position working a 4-day week, with participation in our weekend and night rota as part of our dedicated in-house out-of-hours service. Our approach to out-of-hours care provides genuine continuity of care, allowing you to manage cases from start to finish and deliver the highest standards of patient care.

Alongside a varied first opinion caseload, you’ll play a key role in the continued development of the practice. Ideally, you’ll bring an interest in surgery or dentistry and enjoy sharing your knowledge by supporting and developing less experienced colleagues.

This is an opportunity to influence the development of our clinical services while continuing to grow your own career within a supportive, experienced and collaborative team.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver exceptional clinical care across a varied first opinion caseload.
  • Support and mentor less experienced veterinary surgeons, helping to develop clinical confidence and capability.
  • Work collaboratively with our experienced nursing and support teams to achieve the best outcomes for patients and clients.
  • Contribute to clinical discussions, case management and the continued development of practice standards.
  • Help shape the future direction of the practice through your experience, ideas and clinical expertise.
  • If you have a particular interest in surgery or dentistry, you’ll have the opportunity to help develop these areas further.

What We’re Looking For

  • MRCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon with significant experience in small animal practice.
  • A confident clinician with excellent diagnostic, medical and surgical skills.
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and supporting the development of colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients and the wider practice team.
  • An interest in surgery or dentistry would be an advantage, but is not essential.
  • Someone who wants to contribute to the continued growth and success of an independent practice.

What’s on Offer

  • Salary of up to £80,000 DOE.
  • 4-day working week.
  • Generous CPD allowance and support for further professional development.
  • Supportive leadership team.
  • Long-term career development.
  • Birthday off every year.
  • BUPA health insurance.
  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • A friendly, supportive independent practice where you’ll be valued as an individual, not just another member of the rota.
  • For the right candidate, there is potential for future buy-in opportunities as part of our long-term vision for the practice.

We’re looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys leading from the front, keeping a busy clinical environment running smoothly and supporting colleagues to deliver outstanding patient care.

Whether you’re already working as a Deputy Head Nurse or have experience coordinating a busy clinical floor or nursing team within a referral or emergency and critical care environment, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

This is a full-time position (Monday to Friday, 8.5-hour shifts), with participation in the weekend and night rota. Working alongside our Head Veterinary Nurse, you’ll help coordinate the day-to-day running of the nursing team, ensuring the practice runs smoothly while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

  • Support the development of the nursing team through coaching, mentoring and sharing your knowledge.
  • Deputise for the Head Veterinary Nurse when required and contribute to the ongoing development of nursing protocols and standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with strong clinical experience in a busy practice environment.
  • Experience within a referral or emergency and critical care setting would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and coordinate a busy clinical floor.
  • A positive, approachable leader who enjoys supporting and developing colleagues.
  • Confident making decisions, solving problems and maintaining high clinical standards under pressure.
  • Previous leadership or management experience is welcomed but not essential. We’re equally interested in experienced RVNs with the ambition and aptitude to develop into the role.
