Parasite Control for Rabbits: Fleas, Mites & Flies

Parasites may be small, but they can cause big problems for rabbits. Whether your rabbit lives indoors or out, parasite prevention is essential. At Oathall Vets, we offer trusted advice and treatments to keep your bunny healthy and happy.

Common Rabbit Parasites

  • Fleas – Can spread myxomatosis and cause skin issues.
  • Mites – Such as ear mites and fur mites, causing itching and hair loss.
  • Flystrike (maggots) – A life-threatening condition where flies lay eggs on soiled fur.
  • Encephalitozoon cuniculi (E. cuniculi)- A microscopic parasite that can cause serious illness in rabbits, including neurological signs (such as head tilt or seizures), kidney disease, and eye problems.

Warning Signs of Parasite Issues
