Veterinary Surgeon – Career Progression Opportunity
Oathall Veterinary Group – West Sussex
£45,000 – £70,000 DOE
4-day week | Funded Certificate | Lead Vet Pathway
Independent, award-winning practice

Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon ready for your next step?

Oathall Veterinary Group is a proudly independent, well-established small animal practice looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon with at least 2.5 years’ UK practice experience to join our supportive and collaborative team.

This is more than just another vet role; it’s an opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills, mentor others, and progress towards a future Lead Vet position, while working in a practice where your voice genuinely matters.

Why Join Oathall?

About Us

  • Independent, locally owned, 8-vet practice
  • Beautiful, fully equipped building near the South Downs
  • Excellent transport links (Gatwick & surrounding areas)
  • Award-winning reputation for first-opinion care
  • On-site out-of-hours service ensuring continuity and high clinical standards
  • Friendly, experienced, and highly collaborative team
  • We are a VetGDP practice, a Surrey Vet School training practice and a veterinary nurse training practice.

We believe in doing things properly: time for cases, strong teamwork, and real investment in our people.

The Role

  • First-opinion small animal practice
  • Opportunity to work cases up to a high standard
  • Orthopaedics interest preferred (certificate fully supported and funded)
  • Involvement in mentoring and supporting less experienced vets
  • Opportunity to contribute ideas and help shape the future of the practice
  • Clear pathway toward senior/lead vet responsibility

Out of Hours – Transparent & Fair

Our in-house out-of-hours service offers valuable exposure to emergency and complex cases, helping you broaden your clinical experience and further develop your surgical and decision-making skills – opportunities often missed in practices that outsource OOH care.  We know OOH can put people off so here’s what it really looks like:

  • 1 in 3 weekends affected.
    • One Saturday 8am-8pm with Sunday off
    • One full weekend in 6 whereby you will consult on Saturday morning for 4 hours, then do Saturday and Sunday 8pm–8am as your weekend of working with Monday off.
  • One fixed night per week on-call in practice
  • Monday off after working a Sunday night.
  • Fully supported team environment
  • Designed to maintain work-life balance

This rota allows continuity of care while remaining manageable and predictable.

What’s on Offer

  • Salary £45,000 – £70,000 depending on experience
  • 4-day working week
  • Funded certificate (orthopaedics encouraged)
  • Generous CPD allowance
  • Supportive leadership team
  • Long-term career development
  • Birthday off every year
  • BUPA health insurance
  • Generous Holiday allowance
  • A friendly, fun loving independent practice that values you as a person, not just a rota slot

The Ideal Candidate

You will be:

  • RCVS registered with 2.5+ years’ experience in practice
  • Confident with first-opinion cases and routine surgery
  • Keen to develop clinically and work toward further qualifications
  • Comfortable mentoring or supporting junior colleagues
  • A team player with a positive, proactive attitude
  • Interested in building long-term client relationships
  • Open to progressing into a senior or lead vet role

Orthopaedic experience is desirable but not essential; enthusiasm and commitment to develop are key.
